I Won't Cry Anymore

cry-anymore
The other day the folks at Bongo Boy Records asked me to give a listen to their latest single.
This immediately brought a smile to my face as everything they have sent me has been killer and I hoped I'd like this track as well.

I do!

Before I delve into the song itself I need to mention that this single, as were the others I've heard from Bongo Boy Records was produced by Gar Francis. Take a moment to look through your record collection (if anyone still has any records) and see who produced your favorite albums.  I bet the names Bob Ezrin and Mutt Lang appear frequently.  You can add a third name to the list of great producers - Gar Francis.

The name of this single is I Won't Cry Anymore.  It is sung by Genya Ravan who is out of New York.  Basically this is a rocking old school soul track.

I mean as in when Rhythm and Blues was gritty and emotional, when it was played by guys with killer chops and singers who could wail.  I do not mean what passes for R&B today in which everything sounds the same and is boring.

The band smokes on this song. I love the guitar and the keys add just the right amount of funk around the edges.  The keys, bass and drums all create a truly melodic backdrop on which the guitar and very strong vocals trade emotional jabs.

The old school back up singers put the whole thing over the top.

It might be that I grew up in Detrot, but this song makes me homesick.  I hear Motown all over this one.

“I Won’t Cry Anymore” is available as a digital download at CD Baby, iTunes, Rhapsody and Amazon.com
