The Soul Sessions

Joss Stone is a young woman from
The album starts with a bang as she begins with the moody The Chokin’ Kind; a good song with some not to good lyrics that at times just don’t seem to fit. It is almost as if Joss read Soul: For Dummies and tries to inject some southern blues vocal riffs into the song filled with numerous uses of the word “baby” and “done me wrong”
The third song Fell In Love with a Boy is a rocking emotional jolt; the story of how Joss stole her friend’s boyfriend by the river but her friend Sarah said “It’s cool – Sarah don’t consider it cheatin’” Odd lyrics, but an A plus song showcasing Joss’ fantastic vocal chops.
There are songs that seem to almost be filler songs such as the fifth track Dirty Man in which Joss seems to call her self a good house “cleaper” I think that is a cross between cleaner and keeper – she tells us that she is going to use her broom to sweep away a dirty old man.
The bottom line:
- Very good album
- Great voice
- Not quite mature yet – hence some goofy lyrics but she is only 17
- Will defiantly continue to improve as she gets older and has more expierence
Grouch rating: 4 out of 5 scowls
