In The Rock Band / Here We Go

The other day I got an email asking me to review a couple of singles by a group called The Tattoo Rebellion.

These guys are a fusion of two different bands.  One out of Montreal (one of my favorite cities in the world) and one out of New York.  I'm not really sure what sub-genre of Rock and Roll The Tattoo Rebellion falls into.

I hear an 80s sound in the singles I heard.  I was reminded of RATT, Hanoi Rocks or even perhaps Mötley Crüe during their Shout at the Devil phase.  (For the record I liked Hanoi Rocks much more than RATT or Mötley Crüe.)  That is, while I hear all the elements in both of the singles I was asked to review I just kind of thought "well, OK"

The guys are all good players.  The band is tight and I like the singer's voice.  The backing vocals in the chorus on their first release In The Rock Band, for some reason remind me of the sound track to Vacation with Chevy Chase.

The second song which I heard a pre-production version of is called Here We Go. This is pretty much a ballad with some power chords thrown in for effect.  One of the lines in the song is "The kids are going insane while the liquor hits my brain and the crowd it splits apart while the kids take it too far."  When he meets the girl of his dreams, they both just bang their heads because it feels so good.

So what is the bottom line?  The vocals sound good and the band is together. These two tracks seem to be aimed at a young audience.  Was I blown away by anything I heard?  No.  Was I annoyed by anything I heard?  No.

That might be just what the band had in mind.

Grouch rating 2 scowls out of 5.  Their EP will be available at  http://www.thetattoorebellion.com/
