Willow Run
The other day I got a CD in the mail from Nic Stevens out of Minnesota. He asked if I'd tell him what I think. So here it goes Nic.

Let's start with the good.
-
He plays guitar well.
-
The drummer does some interesting stuff that I really liked.
-
The understated solo in the first track Perspective is kind of cool. I like that I missed it the first time I listened to the song, but now find myself grooving to it a bit.
-
The song My Beautiful rocks.
Now the bad:
-
I don't care for his voice all that much.
-
With the exception of My Beautiful the music is boring. It sounds to me like a thousand other bands. I can only take so much of the “sensitive young deep thinking poet” stuff.
-
I don't like religion mixed with rock and roll. The subtle references to his faith abound.
For the record, I feel the same way about My Sweet Lord by George Harrison.
-
I've listed to this EP many many times and I still have trouble making it all the way through the last track This Town. By the time it comes around I'm so bored my finger hits the next button on my MP3 player all by itself.
So what is the bottom line? 1 Scowl out of 5 on the Grouch scale. I like My Beautiful. Would I buy this EP? No. Would I go see Nic live? No, I don't think I would.
You can listen to This Town on Nic's website at nicstevens.com which redirects to his My Space page.
