Coaster (on vinyl Frisbee)
Hi Kids,
Its been quite a while since I posted a review. The Grouchhold is moving to Sweden and today is my last day at work before the move. That being said I am posting this review of the new NOFX album. This review was written by GabeO the Mexican Biker Elf. I hope you enjoy this review as much as we both enjoy the album.
NOFX has produced 12 tracks of pure punk-rock perfection. I’ve been listening to this record pretty much constantly since I got it. NOFX has long been one of my favorite bands, and this record is sure to win the band some new fans, and some new enemies. The twelve tracks on this disc are classic NOFX, but there are a few standouts. One of my favorites is “Creeping Out Sara.” This track is all about the fun as Fat Mike describes meeting Sara (or maybe it was Tegan) backstage at a rock festival in Germany. The band manages to poke fun at lesbians, twins, and Canadians all in the same song, and manages to make it sound like good humored fun at the same time. The record also features a couple of songs for the Atheist, “Blasphemy (The Victimless Crime)” and “Best God in Show.” Beware: if you’re a Jesus freak you’re sure to lose your cool listening to these two gems. These happen to be two of my personal favorites as Fat Mike’s song writing skills are near their peak, with clever lyrics and catchy phrasing. The most memorable song on the record has to be “My Orphan Year,” a song which is somewhat out of character for the band with its emotionally sincere and thought provoking lyrics. Fat Mike sings through the heartbreak as he recounts both episodes from his childhood and the more recent death of his parents. Don’t think that the song is downer though, it is instead a bright spot among the records already bright background. All in all this record has something for everyone; Atheists, lesbians, alcoholics, college students, and even Canadians should be happy with this record. Overall I give it four and one half scowls on the grouch scale.
