2 Minutos Valentin Alsina 1988-1993
GabeO lived in Argentina for a while during high school and came back to the US armed with some really good music. I looked up the band and found they have a My Space page. Under their profile they list the following:
I need to ask GabeO what it says because my Spanish is limited to the Burger King drive through where I order " Dos Whopperos por favor" In any case, no matter what they are singing about I dig the music. On their profile they list the Ramones, Misfits, the clash, 7 seconds, undertones, sex pistols and AC/DC as influences. The album I heard has a substantial Ramones vibe to it. ACDC? Not on this album, but I imagine Joey Ramone is looking down (or up) saying "Gabba Gabba Hey guys, you got it."
1. Valentin Alsina - Heavy guitar intro - fast - A lot of energy - I like the chorus. I wonder what he is yelling?
2. Cancion de Amor - Slow grind in the beginning. I like the bass and drums - the chorus hits and the drums speed up - nice work - fast but clean.
3. Que Mala Suerte - More heavy guitar then the Ramones begin singing in Spanish. OK not really the Ramones, but that same vibe is going on. I like the short solo and the drummer's funky fills. Good Job. Really good song.
4. Novedades - This reminds me of some of the songs on the Mania album. Straightforward Punk rock. You got to dig the little "Hey Ho Let's Go" like chant in the middle of the song.
5. Odio Laburar - The heavy guitar keeps coming. This track reminds me of some stuff by the Japanese Punk band the Blue Hearts. The more I listen the more I really like their drummer - he has some nice staccato fills in this track.
6. Amor Suicida - I think this song is about Love and Suicide. Cheery isn't it? Pretty good song - more "hey hey hey" chants. It would probably be better if I understood what he was singing.
7. 14 Botellas - BOOM - Killer guitar intro with the drummer pounding like a mad man. 52 seconds of the garage door slamming up.
8. Vos No Confiaste - I like it. The guitar is actually melodic in the solo. Again the drummer is spot on with incredibly fast rolls. These guys are tight. This maybe the best song on the album.
9. Barricada - This sounds like the Violators song Gangland. If fact the intro is VERY close to Gangland. Then a thrash verse comes in before going back to the intro - its good. I like the Violators.
10. Otra Mujer - standard punk song. Nothing really stands out musically. Perhaps it is the lyrics that are important in this track
11. Como Caramelo de Limon - Interesting intro. Then the fast music is back. The guitar solo is really cool. These guys are just so tight - I dig it.
12. Demasiado Tarde - This sounds like an old English drinking song. Maybe this is the Pistols influence.
13. Pelea Callejera - I dig this song too - the intro has a Clash feel to it; like something off London Calling.
14. Arrebato - Guitar blasts and fast tight drums backed by a thundering bass and a guy screaming something. They sound like they are really having fun on this one. The guitar solo is just so Old-School Punk you got to love it.
15. Ya No S.O.S. Igual - thump thump thump thump goes the snare drum. The bass bounces around the bottom then the guitar starts playing a chord progression that leads into a fairly quick song. I actually like the intro better than the song. In this case, his singing gets in the way of the music. The more I listen the more I really like the guitar player.
All in all these guys are quite good. I give them 3.5 scowls out of 5.
Well worth a listen and a good addition to any record collection.
