The Grouch's Good Lunch Thursday Five
Its a warm and wonderful day today in Indiana. The sun is out. The campus is buzzing with energy. I just had a great lunch at this Arabic restaurant . Its good - it was funny walking back to my office. I noticed this girl, dressed all in black, with the black shades on going for that ultra-chic look - Art Chick alert - she noticed me as well. What I read in her stare was "OLD guy alert!"
I thought to myself, I'm in the mood to listen to a bunch of songs I really like.
The first song in this playlist is a live track. Track number 18 Crazy Little Thing Called Love off disk 2 of Queen Live at Wembly Stadium. The leads that come in at 1:10 and continue into a ripping solo that runs until the 1:45 mark is fantastic. Brian May, I am impressed. Even more so when he unleashes that wicked jam that stats at 2:27 with Freddie Mercury yelling out "take it Brian". This is a fantastic piece of work.
Track 2 of the Grouch's Good Lunch Thursday Five is The Simple Minds Don't You Forget About Me. I've loved the drums in this song since I first heard it back in the 1980s. Killer Groove.
The next track is We Want The Airwaves. I first heard on their Boogie Man album, but is also track 25 on the Ramones Mania CD. Great song - I love the drums! The guitar even has a jamming solo. Killer.
Track 4 Shut It track 2 from the Live album Molten Lager by the Damned. A 2:48 does of intensity. These guys were so underrated. Listen to this album - it is one jam after another. (Plus the drummer had one of the coolest names of all time Rat Scabies.)
Track 5 is House of The Rising Son as covered by Jimi Hendrix on the Greatest Hits LP. The master of moving soulful guitar at work. This track is actually beautiful. If Hendrix had lived, I really wonder what he'd be doing today and I wonder what he would have done in the 80s.
